About Us

Ryan Jensen has over eight years of experience in the specialty coffee industry, beginning as a part-time barista while in college in Missoula, MT. After moving to Washington, DC, in early 2003, he began working at murky coffee as a barista, manager and, eventually, general manager before, during and after attending the Graduate Institute at St. John's College in Annapolis, MD.

After leaving murky coffee in late 2006, Ryan spent a year and a half as the DC Customer Relations Representative for Counter Culture Coffee, a wholesale coffee roaster based out of Durham, NC.

Awards and accomplishments include winning the 2005 Southeast Regional Barista Competition, competing in the 2005 United States Barista Championship, serving as a member of the USBC Committee from 2006 to the present, and judging at the USBC the past three years.

Also, Ryan traveled to Costa Rica in fall 2007 to appear on Buen Dia, a nationally televised morning show, and to lead a workshop in latte art for baristas participating in the certification program at Costa Rica's Instituto del Café. He has also trained baristas at many of the top cafes and restaurants throughout the Mid-Atlantic region as well as at the Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, NY.

Jill Jensen began working at a bakery & café in Oxford, Ohio in 1999. She came to Washington, DC in 2001 to participate in the Americorps NCCC program.
